Ang Eskwe-eskwelahan ni Teacher Siningguelas

Standard

When I was a child, I loved to play school.  Along with my friends, we would gather all the the little ones in the neighborhood to “teach” them in our family’s backyard. There was a different kind of happiness in preparing for the lessons and teaching them. Sometimes, we learned about the alphabet or counting aside from reading stories and singing. Even if it was just “play”, the children learned…and we did too.

I thought of naming this blog “eskwe-eskwelahan” to emphasize the importance of play, imagination, joy and rapport in teaching and learning Filipino as a heritage language and its culture. It should be a fun and meaningful experience for the children so that they will always be encouraged and inspired to learn it.

And as for my blog monicker, Teacher Siningguelas, I chose it because of the playful and light-hearted ring to it. It was also to pay homage to my favorite fruit, siniguelas (Spanish plum) as well as to a dear and funny aunt who coined this nickname for me.

Teacher Siningguelas🙂
